As experts from the Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine, pig-breeding industry is self-sufficient autonomy and largely dependent on the mainland.

Currently, the number of pigs in the Crimea is 220 thousand. The top 30 largest pork producers in Ukraine was listed only one manufacturer of Crimea - a company "Veles- Crimea" (16th largest producer in the Ukraine ), which has about 33 thousand pigs and produces 5,000 tons of pork per year. It is noted that industrial pig farming in the Crimea is weak - the region produces about 30,000 tons of pork , and 60 % are private farms , which are the most vulnerable to shocks . However, the most serious problem is the lack of the peninsula of refining capacity . Processing plants are capable of handling the maximum autonomy only 13-14 thousand tons per year . Most of the processed pork from the Crimea to the mainland , in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhya region . Political crisis and a possible disconnection from Ukraine and join Russia , so can sharply raise the issue of lack of processing capacity. Another acute problem - a shortage of feed production . Crimea has no fertility most of continental Ukraine , and probably will not be able to fully support yourself animal feedstuffs. Currently working in the Crimea two large feed mills - Bakhchisarai and Saki . Even with the best yield and lack of feed supplies abroad autonomy Crimea itself mixed fodder can provide no more than 60 percent . Recently pig Crimea demonstrated the high levels of investment . Ukraine's leadership in particular was negotiating with the Spanish company Fgro Crimea Mariana product on the joint construction of a large pig farm in the region. It was also a few potential projects. Currently, they are likely to be frozen to clarify the situation. At the same time , if we assume that the Crimea really come into Russia , the local pig breeders it may affect very positively . The fact that in the current budget crisis, Ukraine abolished the support of pork production , while in Russia this support only ramping up. Moreover, if such a move will be made - the price of pork in Ukraine will grow by about 1.5 times ( the standard of living in Ukraine is lower than in Russia about twice , and the price of pork in the Crimea 40% lower than in the south of Russia ) . In the end , this bill will improve the profit pig producers .
