Russia began negotiations with Canada on the supply of Russian pork in the country, said the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert at a joint meeting of the Russian-Canadian Intergovernmental Economic Commission and the Russian-Canadian Business Council.

Russia began negotiations with Canada on the supply of Russian pork in the country, said the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert at a joint meeting of the Russian-Canadian Intergovernmental Economic Commission and the Russian-Canadian Business Council.

«If Canada supplies us with agricultural production by 700 million dollars, we - as long as 6 million. We first began to discuss the issue on the supply of pork in Canada, "- said Dankvert.

According to co-Russian-Canadian Intergovernmental Economic Commission, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, the Russian side intends to develop the supply of agricultural products to Canada. "We are interested in expanding the supply of agricultural products to Canada, our company has already reached the same level of quality that is fully consistent with international practice and the requirements of the Canadian side," - said Dvorkovich.

According Dankvert, Russia and Canada continue to consult on the issue of inspection of quality livestock products supplied to Russia. "With regard to issues related to inspections, we are in constant contact. Is working situation, I discussed the matter with representatives of the Canadian association and our associations. We will hold a video conference and find a way out, "- said Dankvert.

Earlier Russia imposed restrictions on meat imports from several countries, including Canada, because of the use of ractopamine farmers. Canada exports to Russia 20% of its pork and adheres to the idea of lowering trade barriers in the global food market and the reduction of subsidies producers of agricultural products. Canada's position on this issue coincides with the requirements of the developing countries in the Doha round of WTO negotiations. But actually zashedshel Doha Round to a standstill because of the reluctance of developed countries (mainly - USA) to reduce subsidies to farmers. The Canadian side in the issue of international trade in meat works in series: President of the Canadian Union of Exporters of pork Jacques Pomerleau in May 2011, in his report to the International Congress "New opportunities for meat production and trade" (the Customs Union - Canada) announced that Canadian pork market open to products from Russia. Now, the quantitative indicators of this openness will depend on how the Russian suppliers are willing to work on the standards of Canada.
